Inoue Shūyū (Inoue Shinichi) was born November 20, 1911 in Hyōgo Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Uchida Shūdō and began teaching in 1943. He was active as a teacher and performer for over 40 years and was a member of Chikuyū-sha.
