Akiba Kofū (Akiba Takeo) was born August 23, 1913 in Chiba Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Hayata Gyoji (Sōke Chikuyū-sha lineage [Kawase Junsuke I]). He received his Shihan (masters license) in 1950 and was a member of the Togane Chikuyū-kai.
